Mixed Media Visual Artist & Printmaker
Artist Statement
My work is grounded in the direct experience of the natural world. I live and work in a remote coastal landscape overlooking Nepean Bay on Kangaroo Island, where daily contact with this environment shapes both my observation and practice.
With a background in ecology and biology, my practice is informed by a deep concern for the preservation and fragility of natural systems. Much of my work reflects the coastal environment surrounding my studio, including endangered beach-nesting birds such as the Hooded Plover and Pied Oystercatcher, as well as local species including White-bellied Sea Eagles, Boobook Owls, echidnas, wallabies and kangaroos.
Working primarily in printmaking, I move between intaglio, relief printing, screen-printing, collagraphy and gel printing, often incorporating drawing, collage and water-based media to build layered, expressive surfaces. My practice is exploratory and process-led, with an emphasis on material experimentation and responsiveness to subject.
I am increasingly focused on developing a more sustainable and environmentally conscious studio practice.
